“VIA DOLOROSA” Subtitle: “Passion of the Christ” by Nymph Kellerman
Everybody is invited to attend and experience the crucifixion of our Lord Jesus Christ with us. The Show is free of charge, but a gate fee of R20 per vehicle at Voortrekker Monument is charged. “Via Dolorosa” is an Open Air Music Drama that portrays the crucifixion of Jesus Christ as found in the Gospels of the Christian Bible. It is produced by the Something Magic Theatre Organisation and directed by Nymph Kellerman with a cast hand-picked from the Rainbow Nation's young and upcoming performing artists. Gary Wilson is Production Manager and Musa Tshapela Technical Manager. The show begins at the Last Supper which is followed by Jesus' appeal in the Garden of Gethsemane for the cup of suffering be taken away from Him. His trials before Caiphas, Herod and Pontius Pilate is followed by the flogging, mocking and teasing by the Roman soldiers. Once the cross is given to Him, the full route of the Via Dolorosa is done by both cast and audience until the procession reaches the top of Calvary where the Crucifixion takes place in a portrayal of the entire drama as found in the Gospels.
After the burial of Jesus, cast and audience return to base to listen in silence to the “Hallelujah, God's Almighty Son”, the closing number of “Christ on the Mount of Olives” by Beethoven which represents the Resurrection of Christ.
The audience is part of the production throughout. This interaction between performers and audience will intensify the individual's experience of the suffering of our Lord, and will leave with all an experience to remember in years to come.
